So, I should first off apologize to all of my readers (Erin) for my delay in posting an update from my first-ever 5k run that I completed Saturday.
I was awfully nervous starting the night before but it went surprisingly well, I thought. I finished in 34:24.66, and to answer Ryan, No, those aren't my measurements, but is indeed my 5k time, ass.
I ran really fast the first mile and walked for one minute after the initial mile then realized I was probably going too fast for my own good so slowed up a bit. I walked again for a minute after Mile 2, at which time a slightly pregnant woman pushing a baby in a stroller passed me running much to my chagrin -- so I ramped it up again.
I also stopped twice for water stations to slowly drink water (so I wouldn't vomit) and poured a cup of ice water over my head, which propelled me for the final mile out of shock, I think.
I came around the final turn to see my roommate, James, cheering me on by saying "Don't quit now, Adam," in a sarcastic tone and pumping his fist. It propelled me for the final few steps. Then I was dead and delirious for about an hour and ate an apple and some kind of crappy granola mixture they were giving out.
I was super sore on Sunday and Monday, then ran again for the first time since on Tuesday and I think it was the first time I've ever enjoyed running in my 10 months. It was weird, but awesome.
I want to do another one soon, hopefully before Christmas and try to get around 30 minutes. My roommate won third in our age division with a 28-something. I'm not quite ready for that yet, but I want to get around 30 and think I easily could've without some probably unnecessary walking.
Til next time...
